London Olympics Day 1

London Olympics 2012

What a privilege to be back again writing about another Olympics.

After all the chatter about possible strikes at the airport and taxi stands it was a pleasure to breeze through immigration and have bags waiting at the carousel.  Just before landing the stewardess stopped by and handed me a "fast track" pass.  Not sure how I made the list but happy to be on it.

On the trip from the airport we had the good luck and timing to see the Royal barge pass with the Olympic torch.  The sun was out the Thames calm and all oars hitting the water in sync.

Onto the swimmers.  After Olympic trials in  Omaha at the beginning of July, the swimmers had a few days at home before heading to Knoxville for a week of training then France for a second week before arriving at the Village on Tuesday.  The surprise heat wave this week had the Village staff scrambling for fans and open windows.  The swimmers reported a lot of lying around trying to stay cool.  They are also on a taper (decreased training and exercise before a race), so maybe the heat was just something to talk about.

Opening ceremonies start in 15 minutes.  It's a thrill to be here and enjoying another Olympic adventure.
