Olympics Day 3

London Olympics day 3

No matter how well you plan, sometimes the universe has a different agenda.  When we arrived at the Athletes Village they said my pass had not been processed because the expiration date on my passport was different to what they had in their system.  It is unclear when or where the mistake was made.

No village for me today, or the next two days. It takes 48 hours for security to do a full background check.  Frustrating, but at the same time it's of the upmost importance they keep the athletes in the Village safe.

So with an unplanned afternoon on my hands and a little steam to blow off, what to do?

The rowing junkie in me had a fast answer, head to Henley-on-Thames.  This is rowing Mecca a little over an hour west of the city.  Gorgeous, picturesque scenery, poppy fields, historic churches and a quaint town. It doesn't get more English than this.

They also have a lovely rowing museum with some fun film of the Oxford team rowing across the finish line of the Henley race with their boat completely under water.

Water leads to swimming notes.  The men's 4x100m relay tonight was a wild ride.  Nathan came out with a hot first leg, giving a hint of what he will do in the 100m free later this week.  The French finish in the last 25m was a surprise to everyone.  That was a massive win for them and a great silver for the US team.
