Olympics day 2

London Olympics day 2

Today was a practice run.  A chance to figure out the train and tube system as well as where we need to be tomorrow to pick up credentials and enter the Athletes Village.  It turned out to be a good idea.

It's a 10 minute walk to the train station, 20 minutes on that leg then a transfer at Waterloo to the Tube.  From there it's a direct line, about 30 minutes, to Stratford and the Olympic Village.  An easy trip.  That said it is Saturday and things may be very different come Monday.

Arriving, wow, what a difference from the previous 3 Olympics.  At the same tube station as the venue entrance you have Europe's largest mall.  I did not expect this.  It feels a bit like I landed at an indoor Cabazon rather than the Olympic games.  Over an hour later we finally found where we will need to check in.  Good thing it was a dress rehersal.

Swimming notes.  The gals did a wonderful job in the 4x100 free.  Sorry not to see Natalie in the final group with such a great qualifying swim.

The warm-up pool chatter had a lot of focus on the Aussie's so it was a bit of a surprise to see the Chinese come out as strong as they did.

The swimmers are saying there is no taking it easy in the heats and semis and saving it for the finals at these games.  It's all out every time they get on the blocks.  This type of racing will favor the younger swimmers who can recover quicker between 100% outputs.
